Cable Car

This cable car is a replica of the double-ended California variety running on the California Line in San Fransisco. Did you know that these cars have been used on California Street since 1891? There are tweleve cars currently in operation on this line, with five of those cars dating all the way back to 1906!

I picked this subject on a whim for a Hard Surface real-world vehicle project in Maya 8.5, not realizing just how many details were packed into these old beauties. Thankfully I was able to find a good amount of online reference from cable car buffs - I'll definitely have to take a ride on the real thing the next time I'm in San Francisco for GDC!
